Person-centred therapy in Langley, BC

The belief that you already hold what you need — and that the right relationship helps you find it

Most of us have spent a lot of time being told — explicitly or implicitly — who we should be. What we should feel. How we should handle things. And somewhere in all of that noise, we can lose the thread back to our own inner knowing.

Person-centred therapy, developed by Carl Rogers, begins with a radical premise: that every person has within them the capacity for growth, healing, and self-understanding — and that the right therapeutic relationship creates the conditions for that capacity to emerge.

This approach isn’t about the therapist having the answers. It’s about the therapist offering something rare: unconditional positive regard, genuine empathy, and an honest, non-judgmental presence. When someone truly experiences being seen and accepted — not despite who they are, but as who they are — something shifts.

“Person-centred therapy trusts you. It trusts that you know more about your own life than any framework or formula ever could — and that the most powerful thing a counsellor can offer is a relationship in which that knowing can surface.”

What this looks like with me

Person-centred therapy is not passive. In our sessions, I’m deeply present — listening not just to your words but to what’s underneath them. I follow your lead. I trust your instincts about what matters and what needs attention. I don’t have an agenda for who you should become.

What I do have is a genuine belief — built over years of sitting with people — that when someone finally feels safe enough to be fully known, what’s revealed is almost always more interesting, more tender, and more whole than they believed themselves to be.

Person-centred therapy is the foundation beneath everything else I do. Whatever tools or approaches we draw on, the relationship is always at the centre.
