Counsellor in Langley, BC

Hi, I’m Sara.

If you’ve found your way here, something in you is probably ready — even if another part of you is still uncertain. When you meet with me you’ll find gentle support and guidance. In my mental health journey, I’m grateful for the counsellors who accepted me as I was in the moment and supported my growth. I want to support others in the same meaningful way.

“I'm honored every time someone shares their story with me.”

In all my years of sitting with people, I have yet to meet someone I didn’t like — once they felt safe enough to let me see them. Not the version they bring to work, or to family dinners, or to the parts of their life where they feel watched and measured. The real one. The one underneath. That person — every single time — has been someone worth knowing.

The invitation

Maybe you’re tired of carrying something alone. Maybe your relationships feel strained in ways you can’t quite explain. Maybe anxiety has become the background noise of your life, and you’ve started to wonder if it’s just who you are now. It isn’t. And you don’t have to keep going like this. My name is Sara, and I’m a counsellor based in Langley, BC. I work with adults, parents, and teens who are ready to explore what’s happening beneath the surface — gently, at whatever pace feels safe, without judgment.

“I believe that every person’s story matters — and that change happens most naturally when we feel safe enough to explore it.”

A quiet moment — a warm cup of tea in natural light

How I work

I draw on approaches that honor both the mind and the body — because in my experience, healing rarely happens in just one place. We might explore what anxiety feels like in your nervous system. We might trace where an old pattern first took root. We might consider a new skill. We might slow down and simply notice what’s happening inside you in this moment — something most of us rarely do. I’m deeply influenced by the work of Bessel van der Kolk, Gabor Maté, Kristin Neff, and Gordon Neufeld — thinkers who understand that our bodies hold our stories, that our relationships shape us more than we know, and that compassion — real, unhurried compassion — is where change begins.

The warm, plant-filled counselling room

A little about me

Outside of the counselling room, I find my way back to myself through nature and art. A walk in the Fraser Valley. Something made with my hands. A moment of light that stops me in my tracks. These aren’t hobbies so much as the places where I remember who I am — and they quietly shape how I show up for the people I sit with.

I feel genuinely, deeply honoured every time someone trusts me with their story. That hasn’t changed no matter how many years I’ve been doing this work. Each person’s interior world is its own kind of sacred territory, and I don’t take that lightly.

I come from a Christian faith tradition, and my belief that each person carries inherent worth and dignity runs through everything I do. That said, this is not a space with an agenda. People of all backgrounds, beliefs, and worldviews are warmly welcome here. What matters to me is you — not where you land on any particular question.

“When I am in flow with someone — when they begin to trust that they can be fully known in this room — I sense something I can only describe as sacred.”

The team

A growing practice

Joy on the Journey Counselling is a growing practice — and I’m proud of the team we’re becoming.

This summer I’m delighted to welcome Alicia Dover, a counselling intern and graduate student in the Master of Marriage and Family Therapy program at Trinity Western University. Alicia brings a warm, neuroaffirming approach and a particular gift for working with children, families, and neurodivergent individuals. Her arrival means more families can access support without a long wait — and that the practice can offer something I believe deeply: that everyone deserves to feel truly seen.

Sara continues to see a small number of young clients each week alongside her adult caseload. Whether you’re looking for support for yourself, your child, or your family, please reach out — we’ll find the right fit.

Credentials & training

Sara's qualifications, training, and background

Sara is a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC) with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada, holding a Professional Counselling Diploma and a Bachelor of Leadership from Trinity Western University — a degree that shaped not just how she thinks, but how she leads, listens, and shows up for the people she serves. Her training draws from some of the most respected voices in the field: Kristin Neff’s work on self-compassion, Peter Levine’s somatic approach to healing trauma, and the relational frameworks of person-centered care. She has trained in CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing, and has led courses in Healthy Life Coaching and Relationship Coaching. Before opening Joy on the Journey Counselling in May 2023, Sara completed her internship at Moving Forward Family Services and Spark Counselling, and has volunteered as a youth educator with the BC Crisis Centre. She brings to every session not just training, but years of genuine human presence — in counselling rooms, in communities, and in the work of walking alongside people through hard things.
